In Italy, several training courses for the wood and furniture sector are even more devoted to the knowledge and practical application of the new technologies, thanks to cutting-edge workshops and equipment.

In Lombardy, a few kilometres from Milano, the “Polo Formativo per il Legno-Arredo” located in Lentate sul Seveso has been offering for some years an advanced course in "Design and Industrialization of Wood and Furniture sector", to train technicians for the creation of new products of design, applying innovative technologies and tools consistent with the production processes introduced thanks to Industry 4.0. At the end of the training course, students are able to:

  • Transforming the digital project into an executive project, also taking care of advanced researching and intelligent/sustainable materials and innovative systems;
  • Using simulation tools to carry out the development of virtual models;
  • Selecting the most appropriate advanced manufacturing, additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies for prototyping and industrialization of the wood furniture sector product;
  • Setting profitable relations with the production area, monitoring the prototyping process and accompany the new designed product into the industrial production processes.

In Marche region, at the heart of the kitchen manufacturers district, the Istituto Tecnico Superiore per il Legno-Arredo intends to form a new highly professional technical figure, with managing skills and expertise in coordinating design processes through new technologies to approach the sectoral companies with a sound technical and multidisciplinary background. In this sense, the main goal of the course is to provide to participants technical teachings and cultural and aesthetic insights – coming from the Italian and international design tradition -, in order to stimulate them and develop that indispensable creativity to design, prototype and launch an innovative product on the market. The achieved skills at the end of the course are related to different competences areas:

  • Design
  • Communication and marketing
  • Research and development of products
  • Production
  • Quality and environment

In both the cases, they offer a training path in great demand by the market, with the 90% of students placed in the labour market at the end of the course, thanks to their cutting-edge workshops, equipped by the most update technologies available on the market (and in the most innovative companies of the sector) and teachers and trainers coming from the labour market or Academia and long internships on field, at local companies.

The training courses last 24 months (for about 1800 hours of training, 50% delivered in the classroom and 50% in companies) and deliver a final diploma corresponding to the 5th EQF level.
