One of the challenges that the wood-furniture sector is facing is the increasingly rapid transition to industry 4.0 and the use of digital and green technologies, oriented towards production efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The WooDigital project fits into this context, which provides a type of innovative training delivered online that will allow highly competent workers in the wood industry to be trained and able to make the best use of the technologies made available to industry 4.0. To implement the project, an analysis of the needs of the industrial world was necessary, increasingly in search of specific skills: the results that emerged therefore represented not only the starting point for the design activities, but also the prerequisite for starting a dialogue between companies, institutions, universities, local authorities, research centers and all those actors who collaborate in the development of the territory of the Marche region (Italy).

In detail, during the event of last 27/07/2021 which involved the subjects of the so-called Wood-Furniture Task Force, the main challenges that emerged at European and territorial level were illustrated to local policy makers thanks to the survey conducted by partner of WooDigital, in order to define the actions necessary for the industrial world, increasingly looking for more specific skills.

In the light of a fruitful comparison with the main business realities of the Marche Region, further feedback was obtained in order to better target the immediate future efforts in the training field, for the following needs:

  • Skills regarding advanced software for design and technical drawing
  • Skills concerning machinery for digital manufacturing and rapid prototyping
  • Skills regarding the evolution of production processes/techniques to the digitization of the work environment (smart factory)
  • Green skills and therefore typical of the circular economy
  • Transversal skills that concern planning skills and project management skills
  • Entrepreneurial ability
  • Skills concerning quality, risk analysis and consumer safety
  • Corporate Social Responsibility: respect for the environment, people, resources and the working environment.

The aim of WooDigital project is perfectly in line with the new emerging trends, which can therefore be considered as a pilot and structured action useful for training highly competent workers in the wood industry which are able to make the best use of the technologies of the industry 4.0. WoodDigital training is in fact designed to meet all these new needs related for example to circular economy, software 4.0, quality management and project management, increasingly requested by students, workers and companies in the wood furniture sector.
